It is also known as Shinrin-yoku. ‘Shinrin’ means forest and ‘Yoku’ stands for bathing. The idea took birth in Japan in the 1980’s and proved to be a very effective tool to overcome the ill effects of a hectic life and stressful work environment.

I was born and raised in Japan so I thought I knew better when it came to “shinrin yoku” more than anybody else and yet I grew up taking those timeless arts/disciplines/philosophies originated in my native country for granted in my younger ages and had never come to take a note of them until into my middle-age adulthood. But it’s never too late to start or appreciate something (new.) I am not a fan of the phrase “life is too short”. Whereas I will not wait for something good to happen as that will be a waste of time, I know how to initiate something good (and new) to improve my life for however many years I have left on this earth. In that sense, life is a long journey of learning and discovering new things. I did share this article with my coworkers of mine (as some of them had never heard of forest bathing before). I truly hope that they benefit from this timeless Japanese technique.
